Lake Norman that is found simply north of Charlotte North Carolina, was created by Duke Power someday between 1959 and 1964 as half of the Cowans Ford Dam construction. They felt the Charlotte NC area, particularly Lake Norman would be a nice spot to build a dam. It was named after the Duke Power’s ex-president, Norman Cocke that is why they named the lake, Lake Norman.
